He attended college at Alderson Broggus in Phillipi, WVA, on a football scholarship.
After marring Elizabeth Thomas Fogus in March of 1921 and having their first born son, Ralph, on August 1, 1923, they migrated to Maryland in 1927. There was much better chances for work at that time. Clarence entered the building trade, with the help of his brother-in-law Dolfus (Dol) Adams. He and Elizabeth had another son, Robert, October,14. 1930. In 1935, on August 20, a daughter, Mary Margaret was born; the same year the family moved into a beautiful granite home that Bob had built. It was located on Route #1 at Spready Oak, near Rising Sun, Cecil County, Maryland.
With Dol's help at getting started, Clarence ( Bob ) as he was known, went on to be a prosporous home builder, in Cecil and Harford Counties, Maryland. Bob and his son Ralph, built several houses around the Rising Sun Area and in the early 1950's they bought and operated Mason Dixon Speedway . Another family enterprise was New River Ranch on the land that Elizabeth and her sister, Leota Fogus Coulter purchased on the Octoraro Creek at Porter's Bridge, just below Lafayette Hill and Spready Oak. Before Harry died he had a chance to build a nice new, modern, all electric house for Erma. She lives there today, all alone, in Slaty Forks, W. Va. She said she wouldn't have another man if he were made of gold. Harry was a good husband and a wonderful man!
