THE JANE WASSMER STORY

The Jane I Know

By Mim Baughman

I had known of Jane many years ago through a mutual friend, Bonnie Brumfield, Deacon's wife. It wasn't until 2006, after I had an artle cover me in the Rising Sun Herald about my effort to call attention to Brookview Cemetery which was in dire need of repair. Just a few days after, I had a phone call, a very pleasant voice on the other end, saying "HELLO, Rising Sun Chapel lady; this is Conowingo Chapel Lady! That was the beginning of a whirlwind endevor to get some action on behalf of "our little chapel". When it came time for me to meet with the board of Brookview Cemetery, I invited Jane to attend it with me. We formed Friends of Brookview and with a small group of interested people, we got enough action to have a booth at the Rising Sun Fireman's Carnival. Jane did a beautiful painting of Brookview Chapel, we chanced it off along with other "arty items" that Jane and Karen Armour Crothers created.
We cleared around $400.00 to donate to the board, BUT there were some snags hit and TEMPORILY it is inactive as of June 2007.
